Mapping the Unseen
with Patrizia Emma Scialpi

Documenting a process means having a subjective interpretation of what is seen and studied. The perception of reality around us is always personal: the vision is prismatic. The interaction between a person and a place changes that place, giving to it new meanings.

This is the statement that leads Mapping the unseen, the workshop designed by TOC-Centre, which involves the students of the audio-visual course of the Artistic High School “Ciardo Pellegrino” of Lecce, to investigate on the connections between public spaces and its perception. The aim of the project is to create a map which represents those perceptions, showing the spectrum of invisibility. A multi-sensorial map, composed by moving images, sounds and tags, translated in sign language.

The students are guided by the curatorial board of TOC-Centre and by Patrizia Emma Scialpi, visual artist and film-maker, who supported the students in their investigations between Lecce and Copertino. The workshop is part of the activities of the “Alternanza Scuola Lavoro”, a work experience promoted by the high school “Ciardo Pellegrino”, in collaboration with Manifatture Knos. A special thanks to the professor and tutor Dario Patrocinio, the cultural association Casello 13 and Francesco Quarta Colosso.
